Homework
Each week, we send home two phonics sounds that the children have been learning in class. This gives them a chance to revisit and practise these sounds at home.
At the end of each maths unit, we also send home a small set of questions linked to the work the children have just completed. This helps reinforce their learning and lets you see what they’ve been working on.
Your child will also bring home a phonics reading book. This is a book they have already read in school across three sessions:
• Decoding (sounding out the words)
• Prosody (reading with expression)
• Comprehension (understanding the text)
By the time the book comes home, your child should feel confident and proud to read it aloud and show you what they’ve been practising.
In addition, children choose a ‘reading for pleasure’ book to bring home each week. This is a book for you to enjoy together - perfect for sharing stories and building a love of reading.
Here are some examples of the workbooks children will bring home to support with their learning.
